It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Reg Gartland (R2) on Friday, February 15, 2019, at the age of 79.
Loving husband and best friend to his wife of 43 years, Cora. Devoted and loving father to Reginald (R3) (Assunta) and Jennifer (Joel); and grampy to Reginald (R4) and Gabriella. Survived by his siblings Lily, David (Jean) and Christine (Paul), and numerous loving nieces, nephews and extended family on both sides of the Atlantic. Reg will be missed dearly by his many close friends in Canada and abroad.
Born and raised in Birkenhead, England, the son of Reginald (R1) and Lily (Hopkins) Gartland, he moved to Canada in 1974 to pursue his career as a tool and die maker and where he soon met the love of his life, Cora. A passionate Liverpool Football Club supporter, he had high hopes that the team would bring home the league title this year. He spent his time challenging himself with sudoku puzzles and crosswords, reading, composing poetry, and any opportunity to work with his hands. Despite his various health issues, Reg maintained a positive attitude and an outrageous sense of humour.
In keeping with Reg’s wishes there will be no funeral, however, a private celebration will take place in England at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
