Régina "Régine" Rachel Oakley

April 13, 1942 — December 28, 2020

Régina Rachel Oakley -- (aka Régine) -- Shortly after eating her requested homemade piece of apple vanilla pudding pie, dressed in her new Christmas pajamas which read “Don’t Moose with Me” laying back in her lift chair recliner she shared, toasted, and enjoyed a few glasses of champagne. Her protégé holding her hand at her side listening to the instrumental version of “Eternally followed by Smile" written by Charlie Chaplin, playing in the background died her way peacefully at home in Ottawa, Canada, Monday December 28, 2020.

She was born on April 13, 1942 to the late Gerard Vandeputte and Maria Casteleyn in Oostnieuwkerke, Belgium. She married July 24, 1958 Douglas “Doug” Oakley a golf professional born in Buckinghamshire England.

Continually active in her world travels, playing bridge, cards, loved being outdoors on the golf courses including the Island Brae G.C. which she and Doug took over in 1974. In 1988 Régina continued Doug’s dream on her own twelve years till 2000 when she sold the business, she then enjoyed Florida in her snowbird residence with family & friends.

She enjoyed hosting and entertaining “all” be it with her exquisite table setting, generous aperitifs, Belgium fries, prime rib, crepes, mousse aux chocolate, followed by a digestif of fine scotch or your choice.

Régina is survived by her brother Roland Vandeputte, and sister Rica. She also leaves behind numerous relatives, loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces, great grand nephews, friends and protégé Angèle Vaillancourt.

Régina’s husband Douglas age 61, sister Régina age of 2, brothers Raphaël age 70 and Frederick age 75 preceded her in death.

Régina “Tante” had a wonderful, contented life, and thanks to all that made it so.  All whom loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, grace (when pertinent) and undying love and caring for them.

She requested, that her ashes be brought back to Belgium later.

'God zegent joen, bewoare je en e klaksje toe.'
