Ric departed this life on August 2, leaving behind beloved daughter Tasza, and siblings Ron, Neil (Georgi), Debra (Derek), Gerry (Nicole) and Karen (Pat). He was predeceased by parents Evelyn (Copeland) and Graydon Abbott.
By the time Ric was 8 the family had lived in Calgary, Ottawa, and Edmonton, finally settling in Kemptville where he spent his youth. As a brother he was everything you could want - funny, inventive and lots of fun to be around. Ric was a gifted competitor, accomplished athlete and was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He embraced the spirit of the 60s and 70s and as a young man travelled to the west coast and back more than a few times, returning to Kemptville many times until the death of his mother in 2012. He had a keen interest in philosophy, astrology and anthropology, enjoyed music and playing guitar. He lived with a strong sense of justice and spiritual awareness. While living in BC, hiking and communing with nature became his favourite recreational pastime.
In the late 70s he studied to become an optician. He was well respected by his colleagues and worked as a technician until months before his death. Eventually, he left the big city life behind and by the mid 90s opted to live in small cities and towns across BC and Eastern Ontario, settling in Pembroke for his final years.
His departure leaves a void in our family and he will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.
