In loving memory of Richard (Rick) Michel Joseph Poulin, born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, on October 14th, 1954. He passed peacefully in Ottawa, Ontario, on November 10th, 2023.
Rick was deeply connected to nature. He grew beautiful roses for his cherished wife, (Lisa) Hui Liu, and spent many hours by her side creating an exotic oasis of beauty and sustenance. He loved the abundance of birds and butterflies that visited their garden and joyfully captured their beauty with pictures and video. He was in special awe of his favourite visitors, the elegant, shimmering hummingbirds, darting and hovering from one beautiful flower to the next. This garden oasis was a nourishing source of joy, tranquillity and togetherness.
Rick and Lisa loved to explore forest settings, in all seasons and basked in the scents of sweet wild flowers and great pines, the sounds of birds, the delicious taste of wild mushrooms brought home after fall foraging and the invigorating experience of cross-country skiing in fresh powder snow.
Hand-in-hand, Rick and Lisa travelled and explored the world, appreciating its offerings of adventure, beauty, culture and food.
Rick's love of nature, travel and culture was frequently expressed through his writings of short-stories, poetry and his crafting of beautiful stained-glass artwork.
Rick's scientific curiosity and education in electronic technology laid the foundation for a lifetime of discovery and a creative flair for the invention of gadgets, electronic therapeutic devices, scientific research tools, entertainment devices and, of particular interest, all things laser.
He freely shared his knowledge, inventions, art, garden bounty and travel stories with friends and those incidentally drawn into their yard. His humble generosity was appreciated by all and is still available through Rick and Lisa’s YouTube presence, "Rick&Lisa's Kitchen&Garden".
Rick was gentle, loving, kind, friendly, life-loving, hard-working, honest, diligent, curious and adventurous and will be missed by his wife, family and friends.
He rests in peace, knowing that he was loved and appreciated.
