While he had many cousins, he stayed particularly connected with cousins Deb, John and Bill Gibbs.
Rick will be dearly missed by his close friends Ted Koster, Mary van de Langerijt, Kyla, Graziano, Chasta, Brandon, and Blake Vavala and Mark Pollard.
Rick, a proud Nova Scotian, identified with the Roman Catholic faith and was a quiet, kind and generous man who preferred solitary activities. He was a gifted watercolor and sketch artist. He loved photography and could most often be found behind rather than in front of the camera. He was a coin and stamp collector and a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Watching television and watching and rewatching VHS and DVD movies was important to Rick. He was very fond of attending and photographing two annual events: the Georgian College Auto Show and the Canadian Forces Snowbirds Air show. He loved the peaceful environment and photographing nature at Betty’s Bog in Oro-Medonte. He enjoyed his “Timmies” and McDonald’s but also appreciated large family get togethers where there was much food and fellowship.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a private gathering at a later date.
The family extends thanks and gratitude for the kindness and care shown to Rick by Simcoe Terrace Retirement Community, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Owen Hill Care Community, Dr. Michael McConvey and RNR Patient Transfer Services.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Regional Renal Outpatient Program.
