Our world changed forever on Thursday, November 24th when Rick Dupuis was unexpectedly taken from us. He was the forever loving husband of Vickie Noel for over 30 years and will continue to be in her heart always. Late night drives with a picnic basket, breakfast in bed and kitchen dancing will be greatly missed. As a devoted father to Jessie, Cody and Travis Noel-Dupuis he was their protector, teacher, biggest supporter and they were his world. He laughed with them, danced with them, watched cartoons and went on adventures. He loved them with his whole heart and then some. Kyle Johnson (Jessie) held a special place in his heart also and was loved as a son. They had a Christmas sock thing going on. Rick was a very loving, caring, strong and stubborn man. He was a quiet, gentle giant who loved Nascar, Dale Earnhardt and old cars. He drove everything from long haul tractor trailers to Texas to a power wheelchair to Timmy's. He drove alone but met many people wherever he went that called him a friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
Sunday dinners and family get togethers, while growing up, were never missed. He looked forward to time spent with family that would eventually become the best memories tucked away in his heart. As his wife writing this, I can't do justice to all of his childhood memories that he's shared with myself and our children. There are just so many from back then, and even more were created over the years that Rick shared his life with all of us.
In recent years, Rick looked forward to a week at dialysis Camp Dorset every summer. He could bring the family and enjoy a vacation out of the city while still receiving treatment. Besides bonfires and dock fishing, one of his favorite memories was Jacob Capon yelling out banana, banana as the answer to every question during a game of 5 second rule. We've never heard Rick laugh so loud or so long!
He recently spent 3 weeks in rehab at The General Campus learning how to walk with his new prosthetic leg. The first day there he quickly made new friends who were referred to as The Wheelchair Gang. He got the recreation team to start bingo on Saturdays for those that stuck around on weekends, and bocce ball to go along with pet therapy. It was a 3 week resort stay for him.
Rick didn't have a long life but the life he lived was memorable and filled with meaning.
Rick is predeceased by his father Gibby (Gilbert), Bampa (Moe), grandparents (Dupuis), many uncles and aunts on both sides, cousins and friends.
He is remembered by his Nan Lillian (Moe) Ladouceur, Mother Diane (Gene) Ethier, Sister Debbie (Tom) Dodge, along with nephews, niece, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
They will always remember him with funny stories, fond memories and an ache in their hearts.
Our family would like to send our deepest gratitude to his dialysis team at The Civic Hospital, they were his second family. To Dr. Brandy and his entire Vascular team, your wonderful work got him through this last year and your advocacy got things done. To Dr. Trull, Dr. Soloja (Auggie), the entire plastics team for doing everything they could. To the wonderful staff in the ER that showed us simple acts of kindness that meant so much. The surgical, post recovery, and entire ICU team that treated Rick with caring and compassion right to the end. Thank you all.
A graveside service and celebration of life will take place at Capital Memorial Gardens in the spring. An announcement will be made.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Kidney Foundation, Diabetes Canada or treat any health care professional to Timmy's on Rick's behalf.
