Robert C. Ferguson, 93, died peacefully at home on November 7, 2018, in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada.
During his distinguished seventy-year career as a mechanical engineer, Bob made many contributions to the North American aerospace and gear industry in the areas of design, manufacture and testing. While working at SPAR Aerospace, Ltd., his designs were instrumental in the success of the CanadaArm on NASA's Space Shuttle Program. Bob was also an active contributor to the American Gear Manufacturers Association aerospace committee. While living in Indianapolis, Bob enjoyed volunteering as a United States Auto Club official for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He enjoyed following motor sports, professional tennis, and raising his beloved Siberian husky dogs.
Bob was born May 22, 1925 in Mooresville, Indiana, the son of Cyrenius Riley Ferguson and Naomi Roberta (Ferguson) Ferguson. Growing up in California, he graduated from Santa Barbara High School, and after serving in the United States Army during WWII, earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkley. He married Jane Stebbins, of Santa Barbara, CA, in 1951 and they had two children.
Survivors include his daughter Laura and her husband, Douglas Barnes of Fair Play, SC; his son, Charles Ferguson of South Ogden, UT; granddaughters Megan Barnes of South Ogden, UT, and Erin Barnes of Atlanta, GA; and companion Jo Ann Onemu of Etobicoke, Ontario. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Jane.
Following cremation, there will be a private service in Santa Barbara, CA.
