6 November 1989 – 1 June 2023
Intelligence, Generosity, Humour
Sadly, on 1 June 2023, at the age of 33, Robin chose to end his life at his Ottawa residence.
A millennial through and through, Robin exhibited all of the classic traits: wild creativity, empathy, and an obsession with tech. At his core, he was also an animal lover. He had grown up with cats, and he later adopted a sick kitty that had been abandoned to the streets. Although his work at various minimum-wage jobs meant that Robin typically had little money to his name, he ensured that the cat, whom he named “Nerdlord,” was always well fed and taken care of. Born with ADHD, Robin struggled with traditional classroom learning, eventually leaving high school before graduation. He then proceeded to surprise everyone several years later by writing his GED with no preparation, finishing in the top 10% of the entire province of Ontario to obtain his high school equivalency. Robin was also a fan of bad movies, with The Room from Tommy Wiseau being a personal favorite. Nearly every time the local discount theatre ran that film, you could bet that Robin would be on hand, reciting all his favorite lines and laughing the loudest in the room. After encountering Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas , Robin also became a devotee of the writing of gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, eventually sporting a "Spirit of Gonzo" tattoo on his forearm.
Robin is survived by his heartbroken parents, Ronald James Brown and Ann Margaret Fothergill-Brown, as well as by his two older brothers, Christopher William and James Alfred. A worldwide circle of close friends from his very active online life will miss long nights of playing League of Legends and World of Warcraft with him, citing the irreplaceable loss of his incredible wit.
Robin has been cremated and will be laid to rest later this summer about an hour northwest of Ottawa in a quiet cemetery plot generously donated by a family friend. No formal ceremony will be held, just a gathering for the sharing of stories and tributes by those who loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robin’s name to the Roberts Smart Centre in Ottawa, which provides treatment to youth dealing with complex mental health and behavioural challenges, would be appreciated.
