Roderick Balgobin

November 16, 1941 — January 8, 2025

Roderick “Tony” Balgobin, 83, of Toronto, Canada, son of Roy and Jane Balgobin (Trinidad) passed away, in his sleep on Tuesday, January 8, 2025 of complications from Parkinson’s. His last hours of life were spent in a myriad of red decor (his favourite colour), listening to island tunes, and having his revered broadcaster, Anderson Cooper, as the backlight. He was surrounded by his grandchildren, holding hands and participating in follies.

For the many siblings that he sponsored to Canada, may they spread, through their progeny, the thirst for wisdom and truths. He held in esteem his sister-in-law, Zan Balgobin, and her family. To Charles Balgobin (nephew), may he be your guardian angel. To his nieces and nephew abroad, he remembered you fondly and to the sibling-friendship of a lifetime, his little brother, Charlie, he extended his unwavering smile. May he finally be at peace surrounded by a stout punch, pumpkin roti, rum raisin ice cream, hummingbirds and a premiere car race on one TV accompanied by an arresting Manchester United game on another.

At his request, there will be no final affair. His ashes will be spread in Trinidad. Donations may be sent to Trillium Health Partners or Parkinson Canada.
