Williamson: Roger Leslie (Mac) Williamson of Alexandria/Dunvegan passed away peacefully at home on October 23rd, 2021 after a year long struggle with cancer. Mac is survived by his loving spouse Brenda, his sister Louise (Bill) of Calgary and his brother Hugh (Suzanne) of Ottawa; by his nieces and nephews Rosalia (Ryan, Aria and Vianna) of Calgary, Michael (Jean, Holly and Tessa) of Melbourne, Australia, Jane (Max) of Tel-Aviv, Israel, Elizabeth (Olivia) of Sydney, Australia, Michael (Elaine) of Ottawa; and by cousins David (Jude) and Norma of Calgary, Doug (Maddy) and Carol of Vancouver, Lynda (Tom) of Williams Lake, B.C., Jim (Janice) of Leduc, Alberta, Helen of Vancouver and by sisters-in-law Jo (Gary, Madison, Mackenzie) of Calgary and Colleen (Ken) of Burlington.
Mac was born in Edmonton, Alberta on 14th January 1951, son of loving parents Grace and Munro Williamson. He grew up in Edmonton, and in his late teens, went on an adventure to Montreal where he settled and pursued many opportunities and interests. With friends, he established and ran the restaurant Bojangles on Mackay Street. He was a puppeteer, helping to create an environmentally aware show ‘Smokestack Charlie’ which toured schools. He also worked on the production of radio and television programs. For the past ten years, Mac worked as a mail carrier with Canada Post and often spoke fondly of the many interesting people he met on his route.
Whilst in Montreal he met his spouse, artist Brenda Kennedy, forming a life-long loving and supporting partnership. In 1995, they abandoned city life and ‘bought the farm’, their current rural home on three acres near Dunvegan, Ontario. Mac and Brenda thrived in their adopted country environment making many friends and becoming involved in the local community.
Mac was a most generous and caring person who never hesitated to help his many friends or those in need. His warmth, sense of humor and wit were defining qualities which his family and friends have always cherished. He and Brenda made many contributions to the local community, including helping to grow the Glengarry Pioneer Museum in Dunvegan. Mac had a life-long love for animals, rarely living without a dog or cat by his side. The farm life let him expand his passion to include two donkeys and chickens as well as a good number of dogs and cats, may of whom were rescues. Mac was also known for his ‘rescue’ of objects and passion for collecting.
Mac, with all his caring love, generosity and humor, is sorely missed by all who knew him.
The family wishes to thank Dr Rajashree Menon and the nurses from Bayshore Home Care for their care of Mac during his illness.
Should you wish to honour Mac’s memory through a charitable donation, the family suggests the Cornwall SPCA.
A Celebration of Mac's Life will be held at a later date.
