Roland (Rollie) Errol Thomas Henderson

February 25, 1928 — October 24, 2020

Roland Jr. was born in Sandwich Ontario on Feb 25, 1928 to parents Roland Percy Henderson and Euphemia Moxley Henderson. He was the middle child in a family of 10 (Ruth, Robert, Edward, Warren, Roland, Joyce, Wallace, Ruby, George and Gloria Jean). After an active and rewarding life, Roland died peacefully at age 92 on Oct. 24, 2020. Predeceased by his wife Dolores Browning Henderson, and survived by his children Holly Henderson (Colin Sahadath), Heather Henderson (Dario Gritti), grandchildren Chelsey and Clayton Sahadath, siblings Warren Henderson and Gloria Jean Brantley and many nieces, nephews and family friends.

Roland married his childhood sweetheart Dolores in Windsor Ontario in 1950 and moved to Toronto in the same year. In 1957 Roland was the 2nd black Canadian to graduate with an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School. Roland’s education also included a BA from the University of Western Ontario (Windsor) and if he had not pursued law, he would have pursued divinity. Roland became a Deacon of the Black Methodist Episcopal Church in Toronto. He was a founding member and President of the Toronto Black Business and Professional Men’s Association and he and Dolores were active community participants. He Practiced Law for over 45 years in Ontario and became a Queens Counsel.

Roland loved to golf and was a big Tiger Woods fan. He established the family’s passion for cars, was a great driver and continued driving well into his 80's. He was one of the most articulate people you'll ever meet and he would encourage all to achieve their very best through leading by example. The ultimate gentleman, with a kind and polite manner, he was also absolutely the best husband (for over 60 years), dad and grandad who loved his family intensely.

His many friends, acquaintances and his family will miss him, among them George Clarke fiancé of Chelsey and Clay’s dear friend Samantha Stanway. We wish to acknowledge the kind, care, and attention of those at Chester Village who caringly administered to Roland during his last years.

A brief gravesite viewing and ceremony will take place at Westminster Cemetery in North York on Thursday Oct. 29, 2020. Gathering will be limited to immediate family and friends due to the pandemic. Please contact the family to confirm attendance as there are government imposed limits to the number of guests.
