Rose Sonia Lesiak

February 28 1924 - May 14 2023 (age 99)

On May 14 2023 Rose Sonia Lesiak (nee Smodis) departed this world and entered into eternity.

Sonia was born on February 28 1924 in Beltinci, Slovenia (former Yugoslavia) to parents Matthew and Christina Smodis. She was predeceased by her two sisters Maria and Christina, and her brother Matthew. After emigrating to Canada, Sonia met John Lesiak who she married and who became the father of her two children. She is survived by her daughter Karen; son Mark; and granddaughter Ashley.

Rose was a devout Roman Catholic who attended the Traditional Latin Mass and prayed the rosary daily into her old age. She was devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary, and was a generous benefactor of catholic missions. She liked her garden, nature and enjoyed Jane Austin stories. She had a love of reading. She liked traditional Slovenian music, Slavic choral and Chopin. She enjoyed ice cream and pretty much anything else that was sweet.

Her funeral (requiem) Mass was celebrated by Fr. Dominic Boulet on May 19 2023 at the Church of the Transfiguration, in Etobicoke; after which Sonia was interned at Highland Memorial Gardens in North York.
