Roshan Perera

June 6, 1958 — August 8, 2022

Roshan Perera, age 64, passed away peacefully at Toronto General Hospital surrounded by his family, loved ones, and healthcare team.

Roshan's story was anything but ordinary. Ten years ago, he received a double lung transplant after a severe case of pneumonia left him in a critical condition. Roshan considered this his second chance in life; he retired from the Ministry of Finance and began to really enjoy every day to the fullest. His days were filled with cooking/baking, travelling to different restaurants, making Yelp reviews, reading novels, watching movies, and enjoying his nightly glass of scotch. Roshan had one of the kindest souls. Wherever he went he created a space that promoted a sense of well-being and made everyone feel like they belonged. His humour and bubbly personality made everyone smile.

He was smitten after meeting his wife, Suzanne, who was his hairdresser. It was love at first haircut. They have been together for over 25 years and raised their two children (Tasha and Michael) and three puppies. Whether taking the dogs on daily drives to McDonalds or satisfying late-night cravings and making crepes at 2 am, he always went above and beyond to make his family feel loved.

Roshan was a volunteer, double lung transplant recipient, and advocate for organ donation. At the end of his life, he donated his body to science; his wish was to contribute to any future advances in organ transplantation and to "give someone else a chance in life".

Roshan and his family want to share their gratitude and appreciation for the extraordinary care he received during his health journey. We want to thank all the amazing doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers from the Toronto General Hospital Transplant and ICU teams that were involved in Roshan's care over the past 10 years. We are also forever grateful to the lung transplant donor and donor family for giving Roshan the gift of life. Being an organ donor saved Roshan's life; by registering to be an organ donor you can also bring more life to this world.

Cremation has taken place. Celebration of life to follow in November, 2022.
In lieu of flower tributes to the family, a donation in memory of Roshan to the transplant organization is preferred instead.

For Roshan:
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
