Russell Moskal

March 24, 1938 — April 1, 2021

We are disheartened to announce that Russell Moskal passed away peacefully on April 1, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family, one week after his 83rd birthday.

Russell was born March 24, 1938 in Toronto to Ukrainian immigrants Anne, a wedding caterer, and Bill, a carpenter.  Russell grew up in Toronto. After graduating school, he found a job as an accountant with Imperial Oil, before later joining Revenue Canada as a tax auditor. Russell met Marie in Toronto and they married in 1965. They settled in Scarborough, Ontario and two years later their son, Jeffrey was born, followed by a daughter, Catherine (Catja) three years after that.

Russell always loved a good road trip, and the family enjoyed many camping trips in the summers, sleeping under a blue canvas tent in various provincial parks. When the kids grew up, Marie and Russell continued to road trip and trailer camp all over Canada and the U.S.

After Russell retired, he and Marie bought a country property in Kawartha Lakes, where they spent their summers gardening, walking their dog along the many back roads and trails and enjoying visits from their children and grandchildren, Wyatt and Sebastian.

Russell had always been very healthy, until he began experiencing extreme weakness in March 2021 that prompted a hospital visit. Tests revealed end-stage esophageal cancer that had metastasized. Sadly, Russell’s health declined rapidly after his diagnosis. Fortunately, he was able to return home, partake in his 83rd birthday and be well cared for by his family and support workers. Russell passed away peacefully in the home he had lived in for 56 years, surrounded by his loving family and dog Sandie.

To celebrate Russell’s life, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a worthy animal/pet charitable organization of your choice that supports the care, welfare and justice for animals and pets . Russell was an animal lover and felt a great connection with his pets and grand-pets.

Russell will be cremated and interned at Park Lawn Cemetery in a small family gathering.
