Russell John Power
Of Mississauga, Ontario. Passed away on February 23, 2021. After a hemorrhagic stroke while at Credit Valley Hospital, he was rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital for emergency life-saving surgery which he could not survive. His sudden illness was a shock. He passed away with his wife and best friend Nicole, son Sydney, and father-in-law Eugene by his side. He was 56.
He was predeceased by his mother Patricia Power and is survived by his father Larry Power, aunt Sue Roulston, sister Leslie Power, nephew Adam Power, mother-in-law Angela van der Oord, father-in-law Eugene van der Oord, sister-in-law Michelle van der Oord, his wife Nicole van der Oord, and his son Sydney Power. Friends and family are devastated by the sudden loss.
Born January 30, 1965 in Toronto, he was raised in Mississauga and also lived in Vancouver and Toronto. Russell had a full life with friends from Ontario to Vancouver and travelled to many places around the world. He found friends wherever he was. He lived with his wife of 17 years Nicole and their 15-year-old son Sydney in Toronto and then Mississauga on the same street he lived on as a teen.
He is remembered as a devoted husband and father, a man with a heart of gold, for his love of hockey as a goalie starting at a young age stopping most of the pucks until his late 40s. He was an incredible photographer, bought and sold cool vintage, loved music, cars, bicycles, Disney and especially his family.
He left us tragically and too soon.
