Samuel Donald Watson July 4, 1990 — January 5, 2019
Frodo heard a sweet singing running in his mind; a song that seemed to come like a pale light behind a grey rain-curtain, and growing stronger to turn the veil all to glass and silver, until at last it was rolled back, and a far green country opened before him under a swift sunrise. — J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
Our beloved Samuel Donald Watson took his journey across the sea on January 5, 2019. He was a son; a nephew; a brother; a friend. Sam was a brilliant and creative soul who poured his heart into his work, whether that was his day job as supervisor at Juice Worldwide, or his passions, among them Dungeons and Dragons and video games. He cultivated a wide array of interests: Formula One racing, experimental hip-hop, Sailor Moon, world history, drag, the Toronto Maple Leafs, The Simpsons. More than that, Sam was a generous and kind person, with a big laugh and a quick wit.
He is remembered by his parents, Cary and Kathryn Watson, his sister, Hayley Watson, his aunt, Darien Watson, and by his friends. We will carry him in our hearts always. A celebration of life will be held on January 12 at Trinity-St. Paul's United Church ( 427 Bloor St West, Toronto, ON) in the Chapel Room from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, our family requests that donations be made in Sam's name to the LGBT Youth Line or the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
