MAHONEY, Shelley Maureen (nee Dimmock)
After a very long and courageous battle with cancer, Shelley died in the comfort of her own home on January 2, 2019; and surrounded by the love of her family.
Shelley is survived by her loving husband and soulmate of 50 years, Denis, and her daughters Monica and Jenn (Michelle), and her beautiful grandson Asher, who gave her so much joy as he played, explored and learned. Even though her strength was failing in the days before Shelley died, she willed herself to play cars and blocks with him.
Shelley is predeceased by her parents Leslie and Doris Dimmock, sister Maxine Dwyer, and her special little white puffball Muffy.
After many years of teaching at Hugh Beaton and Victoria Elementary Schools in Windsor and Mount Albion School in Stoney Creek, Shelley went back to her first love of being an artist, and like everything she did in life, she put her heart and soul into her art, and it showed in her beautiful drawings and canvases.
Her love of knitting resulted in dozens of scarves for the homeless, which she continued making even during her early treatments.
Shelley will be remembered for her quick wit (which she lovingly passed on to her daughters) immense love for her family and her beauty, inside and out. She was a bright light and proclaimed, with a sparkle in her warm eyes, that the chemo she endured was "just another adventure".
Thank you to her doctors Hal Hirte and Sharon Russell along with the Oncology Teams at Juravinski Cancer Centre. Also integral in Shelley's care was her GP, Dr. Anne Mannethu.
A private service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations honouring Shelley can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a meaningful charity of your choice. Shelley's family greatly appreciate your kindness.
