It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Shirley Louise Love (nee Rowsell), on Thursday, September 26, 2024 in Oshawa.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Alan Love, and her first husband Jim.
She was also predeceased by her parents Rex and Grace Rowsell.
Shirley loved people and we all loved her back, from her brother Don Rowsell (Maggie), and sisters Joan Jones (deceased) and Diana Cleary (Michael). Her cousins in Fogo, Newfoundland: Marshall Oake (Chrissie-deceased); Joan Jacobs (Aaron); Roy Oake (Jean) and Eugene Oake (Margaret-deceased). Also her nieces, nephews and many friends.
Gardening was her passion. She was a Master Gardener. Many who didn’t know her personally will recognize her name from her “Digging Up The Dirt” column that she wrote for “The Standard Newspaper”, for years. She was a proud member of the Pine Ridge Garden Club, serving as past President a number of times. She especially enjoyed entering the many floral contests that came her way.
Her second love was animals. It seemed that any hurt or stray animal that needed a home found it’s way to Shirley’s front door.
She left us in a very peaceful state, spared the long-term effects of Dementia.
A service for Shirley will take place at Nestleton Community Centre, 3971 ON-7A, Nestleton Station, on Sunday, November 17 at 1:30 p.m. It was Shirley’s wish for any donations to be directed to the Pine Ridge Garden Club (located also at the Nestleton Community Centre).
