Sidney Gomes

August 18, 1962 — May 13, 2024

Ottawa

It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Sidney Gomes on May 13, 2024 in Ottawa, Ontario, at the age of 61. He is now reunited with his parents, the late Ofelia Gomes (2018) and the late Vitorino Gomes (1991).

Sidney grew up in Kuwait and later moved to Dubai before immigrating to Canada, where he lived for the past 30 years. Sidney was a true global citizen, having lived in and traveled to many cities across the world. He lived and breathed travelling, so much so that his entire career was spent in the airline industry where he worked for Malaysian Airlines and First Air/Canadian North. In his spare time, he was always eagerly planning his next vacation. Sidney could have won an award for most efficient packer and quickest travel planner. Sidney loved everything about planes, including being in them, collecting them, and wanting to fly them. Sidney also loved walking and could spend hours and hours on a long walk, and was well-known on the Barrhaven walking trails.

Sidney is survived by his spouse, Judith, and his children Vitorino, Crystal (James), and Charlotte. He also leaves behind his older sisters, Cynthia (Patrick), and Lavina; his younger sister Sency (Victor); his younger brother Stanley (Karuna); along with his in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues. Sidney loved deeply and touched the lives of many, and was loved deeply in return. His zest for life and his hilarious sense of humour will be deeply missed. Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at the Saint-Vincent Hospital (Elisabeth Bruyère) for the kindness and compassion they showed Sidney in his last days.

The visitation and funeral ceremony will be held at St. Leonard Parish (5332 Long Island Road) on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. The visitation begins at 10:30 AM and the ceremony is at 11:30 AM. There will be a celebration of life at the same location following the ceremony. For those wishing to make a contribution in memoriam of Sidney, donations may be made to the Bruyère Foundation.  To send flowers to the family in memory of Sidney Gomes, please visit our flower store.
