It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Srdjan “Srle” Arambasic on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Srdjan, 76, was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, and grandpa (dedo). Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Kelly Funeral Home – Walkley (1255 Walkley Rd, Ottawa) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Srdjan was born in Bar, Montenegro and was one of 6 siblings. He lost both parents at a young age and was raised by his uncle Nikola and wife Marica in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Sarajevo, he met and married the love of his life, Vesna Cubic, with whom he shared 46 happy years and two children. Srdjan worked for Unioninvest as a Civil Engineer. Early in his life, he joined Aeroklub Sarajevo where he formed lifelong friendships and found a passion for free flight aeromodelling (F1C). His passion sparked a love of airplanes in son Bojan who joined his dad in competitions and later obtained a private pilot license.
In 1992, Srdjan and family were separated due to the Bosnian War, during which Srdjan remained in Sarajevo and his family fled to Croatia. The family was reunited in 1996, and Srdjan began working with a humanitarian organization supporting the rebuilding effort.
Srdjan and family immigrated to Canada in 1997, where he continued his love for free flight modeling and represented Canada in the FAI World Championship in 2003. Daughter Ivana followed in her dad’s footsteps and became an engineer, something Srdjan was extremely proud of.
In 2006, Srdjan was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Although the disease eventually took away his ability to enjoy his hobby, he found great joy in photography, gardening and music. In January 2016, Srdjan became a proud grandpa to grandson Thomas who brought immense happiness and love into his “dedo’s” life.
Srdjan will be lovingly remembered for his resilience, strength, humour and love by wife Vesna, children Bojan and Ivana, their spouses and families, grandson Thomas, extended family in Canada, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, and friends across the world. He is predeceased by his parents Velisa and Stana (Pavlovic) Arambasic, uncle Nikola and aunt Marica (Jaksic) Arambasic, brother Bosko Arambasic and sister Vjera (Arambasic) Mrgudovic, father-in-law Vinko and mother-in-law Nediljka (Situm) Cubic, and brother-in-law Tomislav Cubic.
The family would like to thank the Carefor Carling Adult Day Program for providing friendship, love, purpose, and support to Srdjan for the past few years. In place of flowers, please consider honoring Srdjan’s memory through a donation to Carefor (Carling Adult Day Program), Perley Rideau Foundation (Guest House), or Parkinson Canada.
