Stephen John Holton

August 16, 1967 — February 1, 2025

Ottawa

Stephen J. Holton, beloved son, father, and veteran, passed away on February 1, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with more ailments than a poorly maintained Army truck. He was 57 years old.

Born in 1967, Steve dedicated much of his life to service, first as an Infanteer in the Army before transitioning to the role of a Signal Officer—proving that he could both take orders and give them, depending on the day. His time in uniform left him with a strong sense of discipline, a sharp wit, and an enduring belief that nothing worked quite as well as duct tape and sarcasm.

Steve faced his long medical struggles with the same resilience and humor he brought to everything in life, though in the end, he was tragically outmaneuvered by both sepsis and the modern healthcare system. While he fought bravely, it turns out that medical professionals are less coordinated than a platoon of new recruits on their first day of drill—proof that Steve's tactical skills could only do so much.

He is survived by his mother, Pamela, his children, Kevin and Rhianna, and an impressive collection of opinions on everything from military strategy to why hospital food is a crime against humanity."
