Stephen Allan Martin

January 9, 1952 — May 9, 2018

Husband, Pa, Papa, brother and all around great human being. Stephen Allan Martin passed away peacefully, with the people he loved most by his side, at home on May 9, 2018.

Steve was married to the love of his life, Lynn, for 40 years (together for 47). They raised two strong, successful women Gillian and Melissa and he welcomed his son-in-laws, Chris and Rob into the family with open arms. Steve was the best Papa in the world to Felix, Dasha, Freddie, and his fourth grandchild, who will arrive next month. He leaves behind his brother and best friend Dave (Sharon), brother Matthew and sister Carole (Fred). He was the son of the late Alexander and Dorothy Martin. He will be dearly missed by his extensive extended family, especially at the euchre table, where he was known to kick a little butt.

Steve is probably somewhere sitting under a big tree eating Ritz crackers and cheezies with his late dog, Shadoe.

Whether he was rubbing shoulders with Wayne Gretzky while selling 7-Up or playing golf with movie stars, Steve had an exciting and successful career in marketing. Much to his family's delight, his career provided many exciting perks like trips, movie premiers, and the latest gadgets and toys. It also provided them with an exceptional life full of amazing memories.

His other loves included golf (both playing and watching), lemon pie (hold the meringue) and dipping potato chips in ice cream.

Steve was a fighter. He was diagnosed with leukemia 25 years ago and beat all the odds. In a quarter century dealing with all kinds of health challenges he didn't complain once and always said that he "laughed at the pain". Right up to his last days, he remained optimistic and was telling jokes.

He will be missed more than words can express.

As per his wishes, there won't be a funeral. Instead his family will be hosting a celebration of his great life this Saturday May 12 from 3-6pm at the family home. Please come ready to toast to Steve (no black attire please). In lieu of flowers please consider donating blood, or making a donation to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada or The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
