Stephen (“Steve”) George Buckland passed away peacefully at Saint-Vincent's Hospital on April 14th, 2024, at the age of 61. He is survived by his partner Rachel Gravelle, mother Margery, his sisters Linda, Laurie, Leslie (Phil), and by several cousins, aunts, nieces and nephews.
He was born in Ottawa on January 18th, 1963. His childhood in Ottawa instilled in him a love for hockey, animals, and the outdoors. Growing up spending his summers on the Nixon farm with his cousin Harold taught him the foundation of hard work and determination; two qualities that lived in him right up to his last days. His sense of humour and lightheartedness could brighten anyone’s day, he loved to make people smile and to light up a room with laughter.
He leaves behind his former wife Angie and their children, Jenni, and Krystie (Jeff). He will be greatly missed by his 6 grandchildren, Audrey, Lukas, Ethan, Oliver, Charlotte and Fionn. He was preceded in death by George Buckland (dad), John Whitaker (stepdad), Bonnie Nixon (cousin), Margaret Nixon (great aunt) and Gilbert Nixon (great uncle).
The family would like to thank all the staff in the palliative care unit at Saint-Vincent’s Hospital in Ottawa. The love and care from the nurses and doctors were truly amazing. In lieu of flowers, his family would be very grateful if you could donate to Bruyère - Saint-Vincent Hospital in Ottawa or the Canadian Cancer Society in Steve’s memory.
