August 21, 1924 — August 19, 2015

Steve suffered heart failure on the morning of Wednesday 19 August and passed away just 2 days short of his 91st birthday, despite the valiant efforts of Guelph Wellington EMS and the Cardiac Unit at Guelph Memorial Hospital.

Steve was the devoted husband of Joan. They were to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Friday 28 August. Steve is also survived by his son, Bill Nessner and his wife Penny Mortimer of Milton; his daughter, Janie Winters of Guelph; and his brother Andrew Nessner of Kitchener. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren: Matthew Winters and his wife Chantal (Levesque) Winters of Québec City; Amanda (Winters) McGuire and her husband Joe McGuire of Guelph; Philip Nessner-Wierenga; Alena (Nessner-Wierenga) Vincent and her husband Chris Vincent of Edmonton; and Stephen Nessner of Barrie. Similarly by his 5 great grandchildren: Abigail, Benjamin, Charlotte and Frederick McGuire and Kyler Vincent. All will have fond memories of Grandpa Steve who will be sorely missed by all of his family and many friends.

The family and close friends held an informal celebration of the life of Steve Nessner on Saturday 21 August at the Nessner home in Woolwich.

Steve, a veteran who served with the RCAF during World War II was an active and dedicated member of Branch 234 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Guelph. A formal remembrance service will be held at the branch at 57 Watson Parkway South in Guelph at 1:30 pm Friday 11 September. A light luncheon and beverage service will follow.

Steve's ashes will be interred by the family in a private ceremony at a later date.
