Aug 7 1948 - Jan 3 2016
Cherished and loved by many, Sue passed away peacefully, though much too soon, at home after a brief illness on Sunday 3 January, 2016 at the age of 67.
She is predeceased by her parents Norman William Edwards and Muriel Joyce Bray. Sue is survived by her cherished daughter Cheryl Hurlbert (Kevin), her sister Marcia (Sid), her husband Joe Carle, her ex-husband and friend Dennis Bertrand, her little cat Sheena, and was a special "Gammy" to her wonderful grandchildren Karson and Camryn.
Sue was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend. She was a caregiver and mentor to all and touched the lives of everyone she knew, especially her friend of over 30 years, Bruce McDonald and her kindred spirit and shopping partner-in-crime, Rachel Hurlbert.
Sue started work for Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) at the tender age of 17 and retired from the department after 37 years of dedicated service, following that with 2 years working at the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) with her friend John Drexhage. She will be dearly remembered by her close friends Bill Hurlbert, Debbie and Derrick Patry, Barry Garland, Louise Miles, Francoise Leblanc, Patty-Lou & Paul Fowlow, Laurie Holland, brother-in-law Barry Carle (Roxanne) and sister-in-law Kim Carle (Marc).
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the General Hospital Cancer Unit and the nurses and support workers at CareFor, particularly Lyne, Bonnie, Geanette, Royce and Karen who provided support and comfort to her and Joe during her brief stay at home before her passing, as well as the Champlain Community Care Access Centre, in particular Amy, to Manon at Hairtech for doing her hair at home when she could no longer go to the salon and a thank you to her doctor, Luc Lapointe who made it easier for her by visiting her at home.
At her request there will be no service, with only a private ceremony at her interment at Notre Dame Cemetery. A special gathering will be held sometime in the near future with her family and friends, to gather, reminisce and celebrate Sue's life. Anyone wishing to contribute to her memory may do so to the Ottawa Humane Society, Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of their choice.
