Tanya Bassil

March 9, 1949 — September 12, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Tanya Bassil at her home on September 12, 2023.

She is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Zorka Bassil, and her former husband, Steven Kluck.

Devoted mother to son Arthur, dear sister to Starr and Mark, loving aunt to nieces Tamara, Jessica, and nephew Carlos. Lastly, a role she cherished very much, adoring great-aunt to Zoe.

Tanya was born (March 9, 1949) and raised in Toronto, a city she thoroughly enjoyed as she was always in-the-know of it's festivals and events, likely having experienced it all and then some!

She started her career in a real estate partnership with her husband and later spent several years as a legal secretary. She then etched out a successful role as a Career Recruiter, eventually taking joint ownership of the business. From there, she carved out a specialized niche and built up a highly esteemed network focused on placing health and insolvency professionals.

Tanya was the epitome of “work hard” and “play hard.” She loved to travel and did so extensively. Tanya was never not planning a new trip. She had extensive photo albums of which she was very proud. Her passion for travel may have only been surpassed by her pure enjoyment of fine dining and live music. Many of us had the great pleasure of “breaking bread” with her in various settings, a true experience unto itself. She also really loved going to the theater, international fairs, on weekend road trips and numerous conventions.

Tanya was the hub, the centre of a vast social circle for whom she will be dearly missed. She was also a great matchmaker for which many can attest, even once contemplating a career in the field.

In her younger years she hosted many parties and gatherings, and the lucky of us were treated to her famous Borscht. In her later years, she made sure to organize many outings and get-togethers, maintaining a full vibrant network.

Tanya was a wholly unique, energetic, warm-hearted, generous, positive, ambitious, fun-loving individual always curious about new experiences and people.

In her 74 years of life, she probably packed in a hundred years. To the end, Tanya retained all her energy and enthusiasm, truly seeking to enjoy life and live it to the fullest, and we were all better for it. She will be forever missed.

A service will be held at Forest Lawn Chapel, 10 Linelle Street.,416-225-3345 on Wednesday September 27 at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North York Harvest Food Bank at the request of her family.
