Ted (Edward) Walter Bates passed away on Monday February 5, 2018 in the home that he shared with his life partner of over 28 years Nick Franjic. Born in Victoria, BC, he is survived by his father Walter Bates, Brother Tom and nephew William. Predeceased by his mother Joyce and brother Michael.
While Ted faced many medical issues over the past several years, he continued to have a positive outlook on life and planned for a future after a kidney transplant. He continued to hope and dream of a better tomorrow for him and Nick. Illness may have taken his mobility away, but it did not diminish his love of life.
Ted had a love for music as was evident by his years as a disc jockey and by his extensive record collection. It was his passion for travel that fuelled vacations to Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Australia and more. After several years of operating Bates Paralegal, he chose to go on a different path and along with Nick opened 312 Seaton a Toronto Bed and Breakfast which allowed him to explore his culinary skills.
Ted touched many lives during his life and will be missed by many more people than he may have realized.
A special thank you to all the friends and family who were there for the great, good and not so good times. To his Home Hemodialysis team at St. Mike's, words cannot express how much he appreciated everything you did for us; you were all more than just a care team to him.
Most of all Ted will be missed by his partner Nick. Without Ted's encouragement, support and love much of what they accomplished together and individually would not have happened.
As per his wishes there will be no funeral service or viewing. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers a contribution to the Kidney Foundation https://kidney.akaraisin.com/Donation/Event/DonationType.aspx?seid=5013&mid=48&Lang=en-CA
Ted, you made me a better person and you will forever be in my heart and life. Thank you for all the years., I miss you and always will. Lakunoć Ted. With all my love, Nick.
