Thomas Philip Carroll, born on July 19, 1954, passed away peacefully in his sleep at 3 PM on Thursday, February 20, 2025, after a courageous 3-year battle with cancer. Tom's life was an extraordinary journey filled with exploration, passion, and unwavering dedication.
Tom's early years were marked by his adventurous spirit. He hitchhiked across Canada, pursued various jobs, and furthered his education at the University of Toronto's Scarborough campus, graduating with honours and a major in Political Science. His adventures also took him to St. Pierre Miquelon and Laval University, where he became fluent in French, a skill he cherished.
After his graduation, Tom's career flourished at IBM, where he rose to senior management. His talents and dedication led him to build a Canadian company to impressive heights, culminating in its acquisition by a major US corporation. Tom continued to contribute until his illness took hold.
An avid sports enthusiast, Tom embraced golf, cycling, skiing, tennis, and long-distance running with every fiber of his being. His voracious reading and passion for films made him a captivating storyteller with an incredible recall for details.
Tom leaves behind his younger brother, Iain (wife, Kristy), nieces Leela (fiancé, Myles) and Jessica Carroll, and dear friend, Kathryn Hanford. He will be dearly missed by a multitude of loving, close friends who were touched by his infectious charisma and boundless energy.
Tom's legacy lives on through the memories of family and friends who cherished his friendship. The family kindly requests donations to the Thomas Carroll Scholarship Fund at the University of Toronto.
His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
