On January 23, 2025, Thomas Paul Francis, passed away at 65 years old after a warrior’s battle with cancer.
Tom was born to parents, Tom (Sr) and Josie Francis, on June 5, 1959 in Liverpool, England, raised in Toronto with older siblings James, and Elaine. Beginning in school and continuing throughout his life, he excelled at sports, especially team sports including soccer, football, wrestling, ball hockey, and hockey with Tom playing hockey into his early sixties.
Tom lived life on his own terms always being true to his values and his heart. He liked to say he studied at the school of hard knocks and he did! Eventually he found his calling working with trees and built a solid career as a tree man who at 64 was still climbing those trees he knew so well.
Tom understood the meaning of hard work, friendship, loyalty, and honesty. Most of all he will be remembered for his incredible sense of humour and lightening sharp wit.
His greatest joy in life happened with the birth of his son, and increased substantially when he became a doting and mischievous grandfather. He instilled in his grandchildren his wicked sense of humour, his love of fishing and for spending a day on the water.
Tom is survived by his son, Jason and his grandchildren Cassidy, Jack, and Tori. Grieving extended family includes his brother James and his children, Mike, Matt and Meg, and his sister, Elaine and her son, Mitchell(Emma).
The family will be holding a celebration of Tom’s life on June 5 (Tom’s birthday) with further details being provided once finalized.
