Thomas George Leonard 1920 - 2020
With gratitude for the long, full life that he had, we sadly announce the passing of Tom, just 5 months into his second century.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Irene (2012), daughter Brenda (1969) and son Jim (2004) (Joan), Dad leaves behind sons Keith (Judy) and Bruce (Jane), six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Born in Saskatoon, Tom grew up on a farm in Sexsmith, AB where he met Irene. Tom and Irene married in 1943, before Dad shipped out to be a navigator in a Wellington airplane during WWII. When he returned home, he became an electrician. Tom and Irene raised their four children in Willowdale and Richmond Hill. Tom built a cottage on Lake Kawagama that is a source of treasured memories for his family, his sister’s and brother-in-law’s family, and friends.
In retirement, Tom took up golf and developed a straight, strong drive that he used while enjoying the game until age 95. With Irene’s passing, Tom learned to cook and continued to develop his proficiency with computer technology. Tom lived long enough, and well enough, to see and appreciate so many changes in the world. Sharp to the end, he loved playing cards with his friends in Barrie.
Tom was a past Master of both Richmond and Corinthian Masonic Lodges, a member of RCAF 441 (Huronia Wing), an IBEW member for 73 years, and a member of Burton Avenue United Church.
