Went out like a lion on February 24th, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Impossible to forget, he’ll survive in the warm memories of his children; Richard and his wife Lori, Michael, Susan Sinclair and her husband John, his grandchildren; Alexander, Rachel, Andrew and Sara, and his ex-wife Marcia. Also by his side in Tony’s final days was his compassionate caregiver, Beth.
Tony was a native son of British Columbia and a passionately proud Canadian. Born on July 8th, 1937 in Vancouver his life’s work and his passion for discovery took him to every Province and Territory and virtually every corner of the world. Tony had time for everyone. He liked nothing better than a spirited debate, good natured ribbing and the company of those who shared his love of the unconventional. The consummate host and a generous friend, time spent with Tony was entertaining, never dull and always memorable.
Whether at work or play, Tony was all in and always answered the bell. He was a born entrepreneur, skilled negotiator, insightful analyst and a prolific and well respected journalist. All of these skills served him well in his long and mostly successful career in the investment business. Tony joined the Montreal office of Greenshields in 1960 and spent the next 45 years with many of Bay Street’s most well-known firms. He bought his own seat on Toronto Stock Exchange in the mid 70’s before joining Thomson Kernaghan where he had his best days in the business.
Work and its rewards enabled Tony to pursue what he truly loved – adventures with family and friends, exotic travel and as much time as possible spent outdoors skiing, golfing, sailing and fishing.
A celebration of Tony’s life will begin at 4:00pm on Friday, March 15, 2013 at one of his favourite haunts, The Cambridge Club; Sheraton Centre, 100 Richmond S. West, 11th Floor, Toronto, Ontario. Donations in Tony’s memory may be made to his favourite charity, The Salvation Army of Canada.
