IN LOVING MEMORY
Mrs. Vasiliki Michailidis
1943 – 2022
Vasiliki “Vaso” Michailidis - dedicated wife, mother of three, grandmother of six, and friend of many - passed away peacefully on October 25, 2022 at the age of 79 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Greece in the village of Hiliodendron, Kastoria in 1943 to parents Sotirios and Theodota, Vasiliki was the youngest of six siblings. She immigrated and settled in Toronto, Canada in 1970 where she met Eleftherios Michailidis. They were married in August 1971 and began their life journey together.
Vasiliki was a kind, caring, and compassionate soul whose passion was caring for others. Her greatest joy was being around her family and friends, cooking and baking for them. Many enjoyed her delicious koulourakia (cookies), loukoumades, traditional Greek meals and desserts, and home made bread. Vasiliki was well-loved by all who met and knew her - warming hearts and filling bellies. She was known for her skill at gardening and caring for plants, and enjoyed spending time in the yard in the summer with her husband, tending to her flowers, and sharing gardening tips with neighbours. Many admired her beautiful garden.
Vasiliki’s greatest love was her family. She was the backbone of the family - strong, nurturing, and supportive, a guiding light in their lives. She took most pride in being yiayia “grandmother” to six beautiful grandchildren, being deeply involved in their upbringing, providing guidance, wisdom, and insight, and leaving them with many fond memories. All her children were proud to call her mom and grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
Vasiliki is survived by her loving husband of 51 years Eleftherios, her daughters Effie (George), Sotiria (Tom), Stavroula (Theodore), and grandchildren Nicholas, Niki, Deanna Despina, Konstantinos, Chrissi, and Vasiliki.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 30 from 4 pm to 7 pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 31 at 10 am. The family invites you to join them for the services at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at 30 Thorncliffe Park Drive. Interment will be held at Pine Hills Cemetery in Section 28.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Vasiliki’s memory to The Sisters of Saint Kosma Aitolos Greek Orthodox Monastary
