Elizabeth (Vesta) Taylor

d. December 13, 2023

Oakville

There is always time for love.

In memory of Elizabeth Taylor, in her 92nd year of life

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Vesta) Taylor (nee Stewart).

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Sue Taylor-Foley, understanding son in law Dave Foley (Chester, NS), son, Mark Taylor, devoted daughter in law Christine Watson Taylor (Oakville, ONT), daughter Shawna Audet and son in law Richard Audet (Smithers, BC).  Grandchildren Matthew Taylor (Halifax, NS), Kathryn Taylor (Oakville, ONT), and Sebastian Audet (Smithers, BC).

She is predeceased by her husband, John (Jack) Taylor (d 1996), and parents James and Beatice Stewart.

Mom was born in St. John, New Brunswick in 1931. Growing up she attended St. John High School and following graduation she continued her education at business college.  She started her working life at MGM in St. John.  This always seemed so fitting for the daughter of James Stewart and the woman who would marry and become known as Elizabeth Taylor.

After marrying our father, she moved to Ontario for our father’s work with International Harvester.  Soon after that, her first child (Susan) was born and as she would say, her most important role in life as a mother was realized.  She would later have two more children to bless her life, Mark and Shawna.

Our mother would say that her greatest achievement was to raise three children. She was very proud to see them grow, to give them every advantage and to cherish their successes in life.  There was  no doubt about the strength and power of her love for her children.  Her love only grew more when she was blessed with three grandchildren.

Mom was an avid bridge player and enjoyed her bridge groups throughout her life.  As her children started to grow she began to develop many interests and took classes in advanced bridge playing, floral arranging, cake decorating, chocolate making, and creative writing.  She also started a small business- Blossoms and Bows, and created arrangements and gift baskets.

After her children graduated from university she started to work in market research and in her late 60s became the manager of an office for Burke Market Research.  She stayed in this role until age 72 because it gave her a personal sense of accomplishment and because she employed a wonderful group of women who became her friends.

She had a keen interest in people and was very social even in her advancing years when she lived at Heritage Glen Retirement home (Mississauga) and then at Post Inn Village LTC (Oakville).

It was mom’s wish that her long time spiritual advisor, Canon Jim Woolley conduct a service as we remember her and send her to heaven with our thanks and love.  Church was always part of mom’s life and she even met our father at a church camp so it is very fitting that this final service in her memory be held at a place of worship.

The service will take place on:

December 27, 2023 at 1:00 pm

at Trinity-St. Paul Port Credit, Anglican Church

26 Stavebank Rd, Mississauga, ON L5G 2V2

We invite all those who would also like to celebrate the life of Elizabeth Taylor to join us in this service of remembrance.

We would also like to acknowledge Dr. Douglas Mah for his long time care for our mother, the staff at Post Inn Village LTC who cared for her physically, socially and spiritually over the last year.  The staff on 5S at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital who were competent, caring and compassionate during her last weeks.  A special thank you to Dr. Agaibi who was her primary care doctor in the hospital and who helped to guide our family during this difficult time.

Our family has truly appreciated the support and caring that we have received from friends during mom’s most recent hospitalization and throughout the years.

Words cannot express our gratitude and love for our mom, Elizabeth Taylor.  We always knew she was in our corner and would sacrifice anything to support us.  We will miss her deeply and pray that she was greeted in heaven by her mother, father and husband and all of her family and friends who have gone before her.  We will always cherish her love, guidance and support.  Even though she is no longer here we can still feel her love.

If you would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers in memory of our mother, Elizabeth Taylor, please consider donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Willow Foundation or the charity of your choice.
