Viliam (William) Ferancik was born October 15, 1942, in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, to Lukacs and Irena Ferancik. William, or just Bill, or Vilo, as many of his friends and family knew him, was the youngest of three brothers. William married Edita Kovac in 1966, and in 1968, together with their baby daughter Irene, the family emigrated to Canada, first to Vancouver, then Toronto.
William was a talented artist, a skill he used in his career as a successful commercial sign maker. Before the trade was computerized, he produced everything by hand. William, together with Edita, opened EW Advertising which they operated for many years, producing signs both large and small that could be found throughout the city in the 80’s and 90’s.
William’s passions, other than art, were a love of good food and drink, music (classical as well as classic rock n roll), and nature. In his retirement years he also delved deeply into mathematics and geometry, topics he never grew tired of discussing. Most of all, William will be remembered for his unique sense of humour, his way with words, and for always speaking his mind.
William passed away peacefully on December 27th with family and friends by his side over the course of his final days.
William is survived by his son Andrew (Stephanie), grandchildren Lucas, Eric and Natasha Fichtinger, and his great granddaughter, Cleo.
