Vytas A. Radzius

May 27, 1932 — April 22, 2024

Ottawa

Died peacefully on Monday, April, 22, 2024 at the age of 91 years. Vytas was born in Kybartai, Lithuania. He fled his beloved homeland during the second World War and spent several years in a Displaced Persons camp in Germany with his parents and three younger brothers. His family immigrated to Canada and were sponsored to work on a farm in rural Manitoba. They eventually settled in Winnipeg where they quickly became part of the local Lithuanian community. They contributed to the building of St. Casimir’s church and were very engaged in community life.

As a young adult, Vytas moved to Ottawa. He enjoyed a long 38 year career at Transport Canada, starting as a draftsman and finishing his professional life as the Superintendent of the Technical Data Centre for Ottawa’s International Airport.  A patriotic Lithuanian, Vytas was dedicated to securing Lithuania’s independence from the USSR.

Vytas is survived by Vita, his loving wife of 63 years, two brothers: Leonas and Algis, and his three children Joseph, Rima (Alvydas), and Lina (Peter).  Vytas will also be missed by his grandchildren: Karis, Rokas, Andreas, Vaiva, Daiva, and Lukas.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Lithuanian Foundation (klfondas.org) or to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (alzheimer.ca).
