Wayne Stuart Lowry

Wayne Stuart Lowry passed away at Bowmanville Hospital on April 29, 2020, due to complications from cancer.  He is missed by his wife of 50 years, the love of his life and best friend, Brenda (nee Brown), his daughter Michelle Lowry (Jon Short), son Adam Lowry (Christianne Labbe Lowry), and grandkids Paul (15) and Eva (13).  Wayne was the youngest son in his family of origin, predeceased by his mother Alma Geary (nee Morrow), brother Lance Lowry, and sister Lynn Barker (nee Lowry).  In addition to his human family, Wayne loved his dogs.  He leaves behind Roy(boy), Kiwi, Goldie, Twist and Emma, all of whom miss him terribly.

Wayne loved to laugh and joke.   His deceased mother in law used to punch his arm lovingly, while exclaiming “oh Wayne” while the rest of us chuckled or shook our heads.  His favourite thing was to serenade her with “Mrs. Brown you have a lovely daughter.”  Even in ill health, his sense of humour remained.  Recently, when the intake nurse asked him about previous surgeries, he looked her in the eye and in his best deadpan voice said, “just my hysterectomy.”  His nieces and nephews (of whom there are many!), and his sister in law Carole Gautreau, remember all the times he made them laugh – some of their stories can be found on the tribute page.

Wayne loved animals.  For many years he ran a dog and cat rescue, and saved countless animal lives.  In his later years, he walked dogs and was truly the star of the local canine crowd.  His doggie clients would anxiously await while he pulled up in the van, so that they could see Wayne and their doggie friends.

Wayne was also a mentor to many young people throughout the years, as a baseball coach, umpire, and most recently as a school bus driver.  You can be sure he taught those kids manners, while also pulling pranks on the kids and keeping them on their toes.

Wayne had many other interests and talents that made him the amazing person that he was.  He was an amateur historian of WW1 and the Crimean War, played football in high school and loved the Patriots, could fall asleep standing up, was super generous in sneaking an extra twenty to his grandkids when their parents weren’t looking, and loved to brag about his family, of whom he was so proud.  One of Eva’s favourite memories was when she was little and lost a tooth in the same place that Grandpa was missing a tooth.  He then went around saying to everyone that they were the ‘toothless wonders.’  Paul remembers Grandpa always trying to be funny, and laughing along with him - even when he wasn’t.

Wayne was the kindest and gentlest person we will ever know. He was a devoted Christian and was at peace at the end, knowing he would be with his Lord.
