HUNZIKER, WENDY ROSLYN (NEE BARR) November 1, 1944 – January 4, 2025, born in Hamilton, Ontario. Wendy passed away at home in Oakville after many medical issues. Beautiful for the ages, as a kid, teenager, adult & senior, she was a natural platinum blonde who graced the Eaton’s catalogue cover at age 16. With her Brit heritage she loved everything British, especially Coronation Street along with late friend Pam. She was an adventurer & enjoyed travel through her life, and went with her friend Marilyn as 17- year-old teenagers on a whirlwind trip to Europe until they ran out of money. She met her husband of 58 years, Bob Hunziker, on a blind date with introductions by her friend Pat and he swept her off her feet in his Red 1964 Chev Impala Convertible with fender skirts & whitewalls. She was a passionate reader of newspapers and books ,… and an avid jogger & walker with her poodle Buddy. Married to an IBM’er, they lived in Toronto, Vancouver, Boca Raton, New York/Connecticut, Houston, Unionville/Richmond Hill and Oakville. Along the way they were blessed with 3 children Jeffrey, Erin & Daniel, 2 born in Vancouver and Dan in Florida. Jeff and Dan/Betty expanded the Hunziker clan with much loved grandchildren Samantha, Derek, twins Emily & Katelyn and great-grand children Eliyza & Zaylee. Estranged daughter Erin Maynes and grandchildren Matthew, Megan, Alexis, Joshua & Aiden were so missed her last 5 years. Wendy was very close to her sisters Marlene & Eleanor and their children Cathy, Cam & late Chip, and Kim & especially Drew. She was a natural in the water & was proud of her NAUI scuba certification from our life in New Canaan, Conn. Her love of animals and Africa wildlife was unmatched, always having cats and dogs at home was a priority. She loved the many summer trips to NB to vacation & bonding at the cottage of sister-in-law Faye, Ryan & kids Greg & Lori. She treasured her time with close friends in Hamilton and the Saturday get togethers with Marilyn, Rita, Shirley and Linda & Bob and many others who have passed. Love & respect of late parents, Edith & Evelyn, Grandparents, family & in-laws were so important to her. Wendy loved her ritual marathon visits every year to our best friends Liz and late Bryan from Wales, condo in Pompano Beach nearby her old family home in Boca. She loved music and dancing, especially from the 70’s and 80’s. She saw the last appearance of Elvis in Vegas. Her love of travel took her with Bob to Europe, Australia, Bora Bora/Tahiti, on 5 Caribbean cruises and 8 visits to Hawaii/Maui, once to Maui for 6 weeks was amazing. Her relationship with neighbour Lyndsay was so special to her. The last 10 years she was never without her iPad, always researching history, animals, Hollywood, US politics, beauty/health topics & movie downloads. She loved life as a wife, mother, friend of friends…. and the special friendship & Saturday poker with Barb & Peter …. and placing bets on the ponies with Jeff and the tight bond with her boys. She wanted more time with all of us, but she ran out of her runway of dreams & love. Wendy we love you and you will be immensely missed. Her message to us, be Kind and Love.
In time, Wendy’s ashes will be laid to rest near other family members at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Hamilton. No Services are planned at this time.
