It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Lockhart Hewitt on Monday March 6, 2023, at the age of 82. Bill died peacefully under the caring supervision of the McCall Centre for Continuing Care and with his family by his side.
Bill was raised by his mother Margaret and stepfather Sidney in Hamilton, Ontario. He loved the outdoors and lived for the summer canoe trips at Taylor Statten Camp and played football in high school and university. He graduated from Queen’s University in 1962 and pursued a career in accounting, first with Arthur Andersen, before spending most of his career at Airline Limousine.
He married his wife Dianne, in August of 1969, who survives him. Bill is also survived by son Greg Hewitt and wife Ana, daughter Meredith Mammoliti and husband Mike, and daughter Carolyn Hewitt-Springman and husband Dave. He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren Adam, Joshua, Sofia, Oliva, Reid, Nolan and Cole.
Bill had a passion for jazz music and was an avid sports fan, with a particular love for the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs. He passed this love onto his children and grandchildren, regaling all with trivia and facts to build their knowledge and pique their interest. But his favorite place to be was at the hockey arena watching his grandsons play live.
Bill was known for his friendly smile, infectious laugh, telling stories, and having a warm, soft heart.
The family will hold a private memorial service and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada .
