William Alan Macfarlane of Ottawa, who went by "Alan" passed away November 15, 2021 with his daughter Lisa by his side. Born in Ottawa on April 28, 1935 to his parents William "Bill" Macfarlane and Emma (nee Muir). Predeceased by his wife Margaret "Joan" Macfarlane. Survived by his loving sisters Jean Smith and Louise Jenkins, also survived by his children Lisa (Georges) and Andrew (Sarah) and grandchildren Sydney, Charlie and Henry, and many nieces and nephews.
Alan grew up in the Glebe and Carlington neighbourhoods in Ottawa. He was a standout tight end and goalie for the Fisher Park high school football and hockey teams, after which he obtained his C.A. and embarked on a successful 50 year career as a chartered accountant working most notably at Campeau Corporation and SHL Systemhouse in the heyday of construction and high tech booms in the Ottawa area and beyond. Alan was very athletic and remained extremely active for his entire life- Alan was an avid skier and golfer, was a member at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club for many years, and even at the age of 86 he was out walking for up to 2 hours every day. Alan was a dedicated husband, father, uncle (Uncle Al the kiddie's pal), grandfather ("Poppy"), and friend; he had an infectious laugh and an edge to his personality that we all loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boy and Girls Club of Ottawa in his memory.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date TBA.
