Sadly, on July 17th 2024, William Arnold Masek passed away peacefully, at the age of 63, after an extended illness with Cancer. He did so with an unwavering resilience and a strong spirit. Beloved partner and soulmate to Marian Lavictoire.
Will, also known as Bill to many, grew up in Blackburn Hamlet. He attended Blackburn Public School and Gloucester High School.
Becoming impatient and bored with school he doubled up his classes, including summer school and attended Algonquin College at the age of 15. But unable to finance his studies he went to work in the flower business with his father and became the 3rd generation owner of the Byward Market flower stand.
As the entrepreneur William was, he opened Fresh Flowers Ltd shortly after and successfully broadened into the international flower market. But with foresight and interest in solar power, he completed his communications and technology program, and received his diploma as technician in the electronics engineering program in 2005. He went on to open the Upper Canada Solar Generation Co. as owner and VP of technical design. Will remained in the solar business until retirement in 2012. Staying busy and loving life, he found time to enjoy his fishing and camping along with all sorts of projects in woodwork and carpentry in our home.
Born of Ukrainian descent, William is the youngest child of
Beatrice Wilson (1993) and Stephen Masek (1997)
Father of Viktor (Nicole) and Dragann both of Ottawa
Stepfather to Mathieu Lavictoire (Lisa) and
Proud grandfather Oscar, to Izzabella and Scarlette, all of Lunenburg, Ontario.
Brother to Henry (Beverly) of London,
June Martin (Gary) of Smiths Falls
Michael (Ann Louise) of Orleans,
Anne Mathieu (Andy) of Dunrobin,
Wayne (Ruth) of Killam, Alta.
A true people person, Will was ambitious, kind and always accommodating, he will be sadly missed.
A large thank you for the support, flowers and cards we received and still receive from family and friends. For the great neighbors that checked in on Will and I during this time and continue to do so.
Will and I Thank You.
A private interment took place in October at Hope Cemetary, Ottawa.
