Bill passed away suddenly on Feb 16, sadly just three short months after the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Linda.
Bill was a proud father to Richard (Gina), Tony (Sandra) and Laura (Dave); grandpa to six grandsons Corey (1985-2011), Aric, Aaron, Jonathan (Aimee), Tyler and Alex and a great grandpa to five great granddaughters and one great grandson.
Bill grew up in the beaches where, to his mother Pearl's dismay, he had great adventures with his father/best friend Sydney, his sister Marjorie, brothers Syd and Ernie and nephew Eddie.
Bill followed in his father's footsteps and became a painter/contractor. Being great outdoorsmen, this allowed Bill and his father the freedom to work on their own schedule, to drop a line when the fish were running or to go out west during hunting season.
Bill was a number one fan and attended all of his son's baseball and hockey games, and when other kids needed a lift, they all wanted to go with Mr. Alston, after all, who else would treat them to lunch and buy them dairy queen after the game!
Bill was not only the number 1 fan of his kids and grandkids but, of everyone he knew. Bill would be the first to voice his opinion and have a heated discussion with you but, he would also be the first to boast and brag about you to everyone he knew...and Bill seemed to know someone everywhere! If you needed something done or fixed you better ask Bill first because he either knew how to fix it, or knew a guy!
Bill was a great story teller and could tell you stories about a lot of prominent people in Toronto and how the city developed over the years; he could tell you about horse, dog and pigeon racing, pheasant, deer and moose hunting, trapping and of course fishing. Ninety nine percent of Bill's stories were true because he always lived life to the fullest and had actually been friends with these people and done all of these interesting and amazing things.
Bill loved his wife, family and friends and will be truly missed by everyone that knew him.
We love you always.
