William (Bill) Norman Dionne passed away on Easter Sunday (April 17) at the age of 91 surrounded by his loving family—a fitting end for a very devout Roman Catholic.
A graduate of St Francis Xavier University, education was very important to Bill, and he spent 35 years working as a schoolteacher at Fredericton High School where he taught math and science to students in grades 10, 11 and 12.
In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, needlepoints, and traveling. He was a competitive bridge and cribbage player (he showed no mercy, even when playing against his wife or children), and he was a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan.
He had a great sense of humour—he loved telling and hearing jokes, and, while he wasn’t a huge TV enthusiast, he enjoyed watching the occasional sitcom.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years Barbara (Inman) Dionne; his three daughters, Barbara, Catherine, and Heather; and his five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Anna, Amelia, Matthew and Madelene.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Annunciation of the Lord Parish, located at 2414 Ogilvie Road, Ottawa Ontario, on April 21, 2022, at 1 p.m. There will be a reception and visitation with family following the Mass in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Good Companions or The Ottawa Food Bank are encouraged.
