William "Miles" Hickling

HICKLING, WILLIAM MILES - With great sadness we announce the passing of Miles at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Saturday, January 23, 2021.  Miles Hickling in his 93rd year, beloved husband of 67 years to Bernice (nee Caldwell).  Dear father of Sheila Knelsen (Jim), Neil Hickling (Laurie) and Fern Van Dam (Jack).  Proud grandpa of Eric (Aimee), Luke (Kyra), Kari (Jon), Nathan, Christopher (Gosia), Kyle, Chad and Jay.  Cherished great grandfather of Ava, Elsie and Myles.  Brother of Wayne (Stephanie) and predeceased by Franklin, Delbert, Ruth, Evelyn, Fay, Ada, Aubrey, Orma, Thelma, Oscar, Doris and Shirley. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Miles was an avid sportsman of hockey, baseball, golf, curling and horseshoe pitching.  But his true passion was the farm and after his retirement, helping his son and grandson on that same farm.  Miles will be remembered for his community involvement at Dalston-Crown Hill United Church, the Oro Fair Board and 18 years as a volunteer firefighter with Station #1 Shanty Bay.  Cremation has taken place.  A celebration of Miles’ life will be held at a later date due to COVID restrictions.  A special thank you to the doctors and the nursing staff on the Specialized Senior’s Care Ward.  Should you wish to give a donation in honour of Miles, please consider Dalston-Crown Hill Pastoral Charge, Oro Agricultural Society (New Building Fund) or a charity of your choice.
